SCIPA (Space City Professionals Association) was formed in 1991. This is an all volunteer non-profit 501 C-3 organization. Members include space program and petrochemical industry professionals, engineers, scientists, business owners, doctors/dentists, college professors, school teachers, etc. The Missions of the Association are to promote understanding and esteem of the common heritage and cultures shared by the Association members, to encourage the spirit of unity and cooperation, and to enhance individual professional skills and technical competence of the Association members. A non-profit organization, the SCiPA has helped relieve numerous disasters in the community, the city, and even overseas. It has sponsored many activities to promote citizenship involvement with education and actions. It has outreached our neighborhood for cultural diversity and community harmony. As well, the SCiPA has taken initiatives for professional development and enrichment. It has hosted many culture and heritage activities, and holistic health workshops. To name a few services, events and activities:
- Master Conversation Skills workshops. This was a 4 weekends workshop. Trainer was a
Human Resource Manager from Exxon to train our members and our children how to make
small talks, how to conduct meetings, how to interview, etc. - Provide various seminars/workshops: educational programs, space programs, health
awareness, technology information, do it yourself program, social security and medicare
seminars, arts and crafts workshops, financial and retirement preparation seminars, etc. - Provide Bus trips for seniors 3-4 times a year to museums, parks, bluebonnet trips, picnics,
fishing, President Johnson Library, President Bush Library, etc. - Assist members on EEO issues with EEOC and/or NASA contractors. Provide a dialog
session between members and the EEOC office.
5 Host Annual Lunar New Year Celebration dinner. (average 100 +people) - Host Annual Moon Festival Celebration event to celebrate the harvest season and promote
cultural heritage awareness. (average 300-500 attendees) - Encourage members political involvement: local and national elections, register to vote,
volunteering and participating campaigns, assist the permanent residence holders to become
U.S. Citizens. - Assist members with issues: medical situation, transportation, immigration, financial, family
violence, translation, etc. - Fundraising for the hurricane disaster victims, flood disaster victims, underprivileged school

CARE (Chinese American Relief Effort), SET(Science and Engineering Technology
Conference), CLCC and Light & Salt Cancer Prevention, Arts and Crafts Exhibition, Total Image
Conference( How to dress for and talk to success), Annual Dragon Boat Race, etc. - SCIPA serves as the bridge for the members and local law enforcement. HPD provides
Safety and Security awareness programs (prevent and protect from carjacking and home
robbery). - SCIPA is a resource for locating community service programs.
- SCIPA started a Clear Lake Toastmaster International Club.
- SCIPA started a Clear Lake Chorus Club.
- Introduce and petition Chinese language into CCISD High school as a 2nd foreign language.
SCIPA has a lots of talented members, to name a few: Dr. Fredric Dawn (inventor of Hazards
protection Material, Beta Fiber for Space Suits and Spacecraft), William DerBing (Public Liaison
for Astronauts visiting world leaders in the early Space Program period), Dr. Chin- houi Lin
(Inventor of Spacecraft inflatable Vessel ), Dr. Chiu-Wing Lam (World renowned Grand Master in
NanoTechnology and toxicology), Roger and Annie Yen own and manage several hotels and
motels( they have generously donated large TVs as Grand Door Prices at SCIPA annual Moon
Festival Celebration for last 10 years), Dr. Charles Yuan(Research Chemist, Partner and
Manager for 14 large high-end restaurants seating over 1000 people each, also he was an
educator to build a private bilingual and international academy with kindergarten to 12th grade
high school, he is the Council Chairperson, and an Elder of Clear Lake Chinese Church), and
Jan Kish, a renowned Realtor, and many more.
